Stress & Anxiety Management


It is interesting that the increased pace of life means we often notice when we are calm rather than when we are stressed. Chronic stress for some has become the norm. The reality is a person can carry their stress anywhere, a bit like a suitcase. While short term stress has some uses it is the long term chronic stress that is unhealthy.

Modern day stress is more akin to pressure (such as work and family issues) rather than stress related danger (such as dealing with a predator). Our bodies are more adept at coping with danger rather than with pressure. Our built in response to stress has not changed. It is the type of stress that has changed.

The team at Eltham Counselling will work with you to uncover where the stress and anxiety is coming from or the stress category that applies to you ie is it emotional, relationship, nutritional, physical, illness etc. Specific stress reduction skills will be discussed.


At Eltham Counselling one-on-one mindfulness skill training is offered. Mindfulness is about accessing your internal resources by living more in the moment.

Mindfulness is now receiving scientific validation as an adjunct to psychological and medical therapies.

Mindfulness has been shown to:
